Ángel Salas Bonilla(1904-1981)
Violinist and composer. Historian and researcher of Mexican music. He was a professor at the Escuela Nacional de Maestros and the Department of Literature and Philosophy at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, as well as director of the Escuela de Iniciación Artística. He was one of the first researchers to classify the indigenous dances of Mexico. He wrote essays, chronicles and musical criticism, contributing to periodicals and magazines in Mexico. Author of the Corrido de la Independencia.

Martha Zamora says that he was Frida Kahlo’s classmate in high school, member of the group “Los Cachuchas”. He played the violin in a plaza near the High School and Frida passed the hat. He worked as a teacher both in the capital and in Tlaxcala, teaching art and art history.
